Surface temperature
My older pump used to get hot. Is this also the case with the V-700 Vacuum Pump?
Due to the completely enclosed housing and the excellent forced convection by a fan, the surface temperature does not exceed 35 °C.
Condensation on the diaphragm
I see some condensate droplets on the diaphragm. What is the reason?
If the distillation parameters are not chosen according to the 20-40-60 rule, the condensation is not complete and vapor is entering into the pump. Due to the higher pressure in the second stage, the vapor may condensate leading to droplets. Thus, the pressure has to be increased or the cooling temperature of the condensation assembly decreased.
Secondary condenser place
What is the advantage of the secondary condenser compared to an in-line condenser between pump and distillation unit?
If the solvent is expanded first to ambient pressure, the vapor pressure is increased and thus a condensation much more efficient. This is the reason why the secondary condenser is at the pressure side of the pump. Due to the chemical resistance of the diaphragm pump, even aggressive gases and vapors do not harm the pump.
Use of Gas Ballast
How do I efficiently use the gas ballast?
The gas ballast is an easy method to adjust leakage air to the pump heads. This addition of inert gas helps to dry the diaphragms in case of condensate and thus increase the pump rate again. Typically, the gas ballast is closed to obtain highest flow rate.
Pump with two Rotavapors
Can I connect 2 Rotavapors to one V-700 Vacuum Pump?
The Vacuum Pump with the Controller has the optimal performance and convenient operation in the speed mode. This means that one Controller on one Rotavapor controls one pump. If two independent rotary evaporators are connected to one pump, two controllers are used and thus two valve units. In this case, the pump is controlled by the switch-box mode. In case that no vacuum is required, the pump switches off.
Final Vacuum
What can I do if the pump not reach the final vacuum?
Remove the hose from the pump inlet. Let the pump run and suck some ethanol into the pump. You see the ethanol now in both pump heads trough the glass heads. Switch off the pump and let it solve the solid parts that could be in the pump head. Start the pump again and suck it to dryness. Connect again the hose inlet and check the final vacuum (<10mbar directly connected to a vacuum controller).
Low Vacuum with two pumps
For a distillation with high boiling solvent, I seldom need a very low final vacuum. Can I connect two pumps in series?
Yes. Due to the intelligent RS 485 communication mode, two pumps can be controlled by one controller. This enables the operation of two V-700 pumps in series, resulting in vacuum pressures of below 1 mbar.
The new ECO²-Mode
Is the final vacuum affected by the new ECO²-Mode?
No, the final vacuum is not affected by the ECO²-Mode. The ECO²-Mode only reduces the speed of the pump which reduces the capacity after 1h to 1.4 m3/h and after 2h to 1 m3/h.
Reset the ECO²-Mode
How can I reset the ECO²-Mode?
The ECO²-Mode can be reset by simply switching the pump off and on again.
Can I switch off the ECO²-Mode?
No, the ECO²-Mode cannot be switched off. However it is not active if the pump is used together with a BUCHI Vacuum Controller. In case that the Vacuum Pump V-700 is utilized as a central lab source pump, we strongly recommend the combination with the LabVac Vacuum Controller V-802 to guaranty maximum evacuation performance all the time.
