"Polarization FT-NIR enables for measuring the fat quality of carcases already in the slaughter plant. In Switzerland, fat quality is part of the payment system. In contrast to the conventional iodine value FT-NIR gives additional information about the fatty acid profile. The measurement is done easier, faster and without the use of toxic solvents.
Due to the transferable calibrations, labs at various plants do measure the exactly
same trait, which is tremendously important for an economically relevant quality criterion."
